Ship Stability Evaluation


Ship stability is one of the pillars of marine design and ship safety, it is essential that stability aspects are carefully evaluated throughout a design or conversion project and at regular intervals during a ship’s life. Using state of the art software packages we can carry out both intact and damage stability evaluations and prepare the necessary stability booklets for approval by classification societies and National authorities.

Regulation


Various International Conventions, Codes and National regulations may apply depending on vessel type, size and nature of operation. The principal ones being:

-    The IMO Code on Intact Stability, IMO Resolution A.749(18) as amended;

-    SOLAS Chapter II-1 including the provisions for probabilistic damage stability evaluation as per IMO Resolution MSC.216(82);

-    The International Convention on Load Lines;

-    The International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL 73/78) including implementation of the probabilistic oil outflow calculations according to MEPC.141(54);

-    International Code for the Safe Carriage of Grain, IMO Resolution MSC.23(59);

-    IMO Code of Safety for Special Purpose Ships, IMO Resolution MSC.266(84);

-    The Malta Commercial Yacht Code 2010, MCA LY2 Code and similar.
