Small Ships

The design and regulation of ships of under 500GT and other ships generally trading in local geographic areas (non-SOLAS) can prove challenging. The service life of these ships is typically longer than that of an average ship and their nature of operation is likely to change or evolve during this period. Nonetheless these vessels are very important to the economies of local communities and are an essential link in the marine transport chain. Space allocation, arrangement and stability are all crucial issues as is the application of safety standards in relation to the design and operation of such ships.

We are happy to discuss design, survey and operational matters relating to non-convention ships and are in a position to provide you with the necessary guidance in relation to the main industry standards such as the IACS guidelines for non-Convention ships, the Commercial Vessels Regulations and other related Codes.
